Pranayama withJeannette

Since learning about the ancient yogic practices of pranayama, or breathwork, I've been fascinated by the power held within this vital life force. When one engages in conscious and controlled breathing it can have a very transformative effect physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually and I am so excited to share it with those who are ready.

It is a practice that can leave you feeling a deep sense of nourishing peace and relaxation while helping you access trauma and release emotional, mental, and physical blocks. It can be both a gentle and soothing practice or it can take you to uncomfortable deeps you didn't know were there or were willing to look at.

What is Breathwork?

Pranayama is an ancient yogic practice, only one part of the Eight Limbs of Yoga.

Prana = Vital Energy or Life Force.

"It's a force that exists in everything, whether animate or inanimate. While it is intimately related to the air we breathe, it is more about the subtle energy in the body." With pranayama, we use the breath to influence the flow of vital energy.

Ayama = To expand, extend, control, or play.

Bringing the words together defines pranayama as an extension or expansion of the dimension of prana. "The techniques of pranayama provide a method whereby the life force can be activated and regulated in order to go beyond one's normal boundaries or limitations to attain a higher state of vibratory energy and awareness." -

Breathwork is an umbrella term for any time you take conscious control of your breath and use it with the intention of shifting your physiology and state of mind.

Through breathwork, you will practice expanding, controlling, extending, and playing with the breath, your vital life force. When you become aware of your breath, you connect to your state of mind. You cannot manage the mind until first gaining control of the breath. One goal may be to regulate the nervous system and bring your body out of a state of stress and overstimulation.

Deliberate breathwork practices done for about five minutes per day across the course of about a month have been shown to lead to greater reductions in stress. Breath is your quick access to resetting the mind and dropping into the body.

So whether you are looking to improve your mental health, athletic performance, or improve your sleep quality, there are different breathwork techniques that help you find it. It is my purpose to help educate and empower you to achieve this.

What are the Benefits?

Physical

line-icons-flowers.png
Increases Energy

When the body is feeling low on energy, oxygen is one of the most essential resources. Focusing on slowing the breath allows the body to re-oxygenate the cells for higher energy.

Emotional

Alleviates Depression

Depression is a state of built-up emotion in the body that the mind then has to process by depressing. Conscious breathing can help alleviate emotional stress.

Mental

Relaxes the Mind

Being mindful of the state of our breath is a valuable indicator for the state of the mind. Controlled and elongated breaths send signals to our brain that we are safe and acts as a rest button for the mind.

Deep Embodiment

Becoming consciously aware of the breath is one of the most basic ways to bring us back to a mind-body connection. When we feel embodied we are able to start the healing process.

Alleviates Anxiety

Anxiety is a state of overstimulation of the nervous system. Consciously connecting with the breath can help alleviate the stress on the nervous system by bringing the body into the parasympathetic state.

Experience Clarity

Using the breath to calm the nervous system, the mind is able to think more clearly. Allowing you to access information in more efficient ways.

Releasing Toxins

Breathing is one of the main ways the body releases toxins. Approximately 70% of toxins are released through the breath. Controlled breathing promotes movement of the lymphatic system via the bloodstream.

Balances The Nervous System

The breath is directly associated with the nervous system. Practicing conscious and controlled breathing allows you to regulate the nervous system and bring the body into the parasympathetic system, the body's Rest and Digest State.

Release Blockages

Deep breathing not only creates space in the body but also allows stuck energy in the body to be transformed and released from an emotional and physical level. It's not always rainbows and sunshine but if you're prepared for this type of release it can be very transformative.

Boosts Immunity

Deep and controled breathing targets the lymphatic system directly. Conscious breathing protects the body from pathogens and other threats.

Helps Creativity

There are breath techniques that can activate certain parts of the brain allowing you to access your creativity.

Improves Focus

All functions of the body require oxygen to work so practicing conscious breathing oxygenates the body for optimal clarity and productivity.
